Shrunken Heads

(Tsantsa)

Dried Apple Heads

Called Tsantsa by the Jivaro Indians of the Ecuadorian Coast, shrunken heads were not only trophies but were also considered magical. They both bestowed good fortune onto the warrior who took it by pleasing his dead relatives but also paralyzed the spirit of the enemy to whom it had belonged so that he could not take revenge on the murderer.
In essence, if you owned the man’s head, you controlled his soul.
